The Federal Road Safety Corps has deployed 555 personnel across Osun State to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The Osun State Sector Commander, Mr Sunday Adebayo, disclosed this in a statement issued through the Sector Public Education Officer, Mrs Agnes Ogungbemi, in Osogbo.
He said the special patrol operation would run for one week, from May 25 to May 31, and is aimed at preventing road crashes and easing vehicular movement during the festive period.
According to him, the exercise will be carried out in collaboration with other security agencies to strengthen road safety enforcement across the state.
Adebayo stated that the deployment includes three ambulances, two roadside clinics, one tow truck, and 15 patrol vehicles to support emergency response and traffic control.
“The operation will be carried out in collaboration with other sister security agencies,” he said. “Our statutory responsibilities include clearing obstructions on roads, identifying causes of road traffic accidents and proffering solutions to them.”
He urged motorists and other road users to comply with traffic regulations, avoid speeding, and drive responsibly throughout the celebration period.
The sector commander also called on the media and stakeholders to support ongoing campaigns against road accidents, stressing the need for collective action to reduce crashes on highways.
Adebayo further warned against dangerous driving practices such as speeding, wrongful overtaking, route violations, and overloading.
In a related development, travellers in Osogbo have raised concerns over rising transport fares ahead of the Eid celebrations, attributing the increase to the cost of fuel.
