The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has raised an alarm over the existence of a fraudulent Facebook account impersonating its Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed.
In a statement released on Friday, June 7, 2025, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, described the development as a serious case of identity theft aimed at defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians.
“This fraudulent account is being used to spread false information, promise contracts, solicit assistance, and offer fake rewards to unsuspecting members of the public,” Ebienfa said.
He stressed that the ministry strongly dissociates itself from the impersonation and cautioned the public against engaging with the page or its handlers.
“The Permanent Secretary does not operate or own any social media account. Any such communication should be regarded as a scam,” he clarified.
Ebienfa disclosed that the ministry is actively working with law enforcement agencies and Meta—the parent company of Facebook—to investigate the incident and ensure the removal of the fake profile.
“We are committed to transparency, integrity, and the protection of citizens from fraudulent activities on all platforms,” he affirmed.
The ministry urged the public to remain vigilant, report any suspicious online activity, and avoid falling prey to cyber fraudsters exploiting the names of government officials.
