The Federal Housing Authority has announced plans to begin the construction of 200 housing units in Ekiti State before the end of 2025, as part of efforts to reduce Nigeria’s housing deficit.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FHA, Oyetunde Ojo, disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday. He said the project would commence after the rainy season, around November or December.
According to Ojo, Governor Biodun Oyebanji had provided 20 hectares of land along Ekiti State University Road and issued the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) free of charge to support the housing initiative.
“We are building 200 two-bedroom bungalows there. We will start with 100 units, and the groundbreaking will take place after the rains,” Ojo stated. “The governor, in his magnanimity, gave us 20 hectares of land and the C of O at no cost. All necessary papers have been perfected.”
The FHA boss commended Oyebanji for what he described as his inclusive and development-driven leadership, which he said had continued to attract federal projects and appointments to the state.
“No governor has been able to attract so many federal appointments and projects to Ekiti State like Governor Oyebanji. It reflects President Bola Tinubu’s affection for our people and his respect for the governor’s leadership,” he added.
Ojo further noted that the governor’s openness and non-partisan approach to governance had strengthened public confidence in his administration and expanded the membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
“Oyebanji is not just the governor of APC members but of Ekiti people as a whole,” he said. “He understands our challenges because he was part of the struggle for the creation of Ekiti State. He is responsive and sensitive to the needs of all.”
The FHA chief also commented on political dynamics in the state, urging inclusivity and collaboration across party lines. He defended Oyebanji’s cordial relationship with former Governor Ayodele Fayose, describing politics as “a game of numbers.”
“Are you saying that if someone wants to join us, we should drive them away? Politics is about people and inclusiveness,” Ojo said.
“If Fayose and others are interested in supporting the government, they are welcome. Even Fayemi once benefited from such alliances.”
The statement follows the Ekiti State Government’s earlier approval of over N12 billion for road rehabilitation, housing, and agricultural projects, including the Ikogosi–Ipole–Efon Alaaye Road, to boost economic activities and enhance infrastructure across the state.
