FG, Sokoto govt intensify joint efforts to curb insecurity

The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has reaffirmed that the Federal Government and the state are collaborating closely to tackle insecurity and restore peace across the region.

Speaking during a Sallah homage to the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, shortly after Eid prayers, the governor said his administration had strengthened support for security agencies in the fight against banditry.

According to him, “The Federal Government and Sokoto State are working in synergy to address insecurity. We have increased logistical and operational support for security agencies, including the State Community Guard Corps, to improve safety across the state.”

Aliyu stressed the importance of public cooperation, noting that community support remains critical to the success of ongoing security operations.

“We urge residents to continue cooperating with security agencies. Their support is vital in our collective effort to combat banditry and other criminal activities,” he said.

The governor also called for prayers for security personnel deployed to volatile areas, adding, “We must continue to pray for the protection and success of our gallant officers who are risking their lives to keep our communities safe.”

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, Aliyu assured residents that their needs would remain a priority.

“We will continue to operate an open-door policy that reflects the aspirations and yearnings of our people,” he stated.

He further encouraged Islamic clerics to sustain prayers for peace and unity, while commending their role during the Ramadan period.

In his response, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, lauded the governor’s development efforts and urged him not to relent.

“Your Excellency, we encourage you to sustain the good work you are doing for the state. The Sultanate Council stands firmly behind you,” the monarch said.

He also praised security agencies for their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging them to maintain momentum.

“We appreciate the efforts of our security agencies and encourage them to continue their good work in protecting citizens,” he added.

The Sultan further called on residents to support government initiatives aimed at developing the state and fostering lasting peace.

Sokoto State, like several parts of Nigeria’s North-West, has faced persistent security challenges in recent years, including banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on rural communities.

Authorities say ongoing joint operations involving security forces and local initiatives are being intensified to address the situation.
