Fallen trailer causes gridlock on Kubwa Expressway in Abuja

Commuters in the Federal Capital Territory were stranded for hours on Monday morning following a traffic jam caused by a fallen trailer along the busy Kubwa Expressway.

According to The PUNCH, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the FCT, Felix Theman, explained that the crash occurred after one of the trailer’s tyres pulled out, causing the vehicle to overturn and block a major section of the expressway.

“There’s currently a gridlock because there’s no free flow of traffic, as a section of the expressway has been blocked by the fallen trailer,” Theman said.

“Our officers are fully on ground, ensuring that motorists use the service lane and the few lanes that are still accessible.”

He urged motorists to cooperate with traffic officers and exercise restraint to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.

“It’s crucial that drivers exercise patience and cooperate with the officers on ground. Indiscipline, impatience, and lack of cooperation could compound the current traffic situation,” he cautioned.

The man also confirmed that towing services had been contacted to remove the trailer and restore free movement.

“We’ve engaged the relevant towing company, and their tow truck is already on the way to the scene. In no time, we hope to remove the trailer and restore normal traffic flow,” he assured.
