The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has resumed direct revenue collection at the cargo terminals of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, ending a 15-year pause.
The development was confirmed in a statement released on Saturday by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, through the agency’s official X handle.
According to the statement, officials from the Directorate of Cargo Development and Services have now been deployed to the cargo release points of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company and the Skyway Aviation Handling Company warehouses to monitor and collect charges in real time.
“FAAN has recorded a landmark achievement with the successful resumption of direct revenue collection at the cargo terminals of Murtala Muhammed International Airport after 15 years,” Orah stated.
She added that the move, carried out in close partnership with the PTC Customs Area Command led by Comptroller T. Awe, is already plugging revenue leakages and improving accountability across the air cargo chain.
“For the first time in over a decade, FAAN officials are physically present at the cargo release points of NAHCO and SAHCO warehouses to oversee collections as they happen. This is a strong demonstration of FAAN’s renewed commitment to transparency, operational efficiency, and inter-agency collaboration,” she explained.
The authority believes the reform will serve as a template for replication across other airports nationwide, boosting revenue generation and strengthening Nigeria’s aviation sector.
“This milestone reflects FAAN’s vision to optimise cargo operations, unlock new revenue streams, and enhance the ease of doing business for stakeholders,” the statement added.
