Ex-Man Utd boss Amorim agrees two-year deal with Milan

Former Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, is on the verge of making a swift return to management after reportedly agreeing to take charge of Italian giants AC Milan.

The Portuguese coach, who has been without a club since parting ways with Manchester United in January, is expected to replace Massimiliano Allegri at the San Siro on an initial two-year contract.

Reports from Portugal claim the 41-year-old has accepted a deal running until 2028, with Milan also retaining the option to extend the agreement by a further year.

Amorim had initially considered stepping away from football for a period following his turbulent spell at Old Trafford, but the opportunity to lead the seven-time European champions changed his plans.

The former Sporting CP boss is set to earn €3.5 million annually, with additional bonuses linked to trophies and qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

Milan are eager to return to Europe’s elite competition after missing out in each of the last two seasons.

Although terms have largely been finalised, the move is still awaiting approval from RedBird Capital chief Gerry Cardinale.

Once the final approval is granted, Amorim is expected to head to Milan to complete the formalities and begin preparations for the new campaign.

The Rossoneri had explored other managerial options, including Al-Ahli coach Matthias Jaissle, but Amorim’s availability as a free agent reportedly made him the preferred choice. His situation also meant Milan could avoid paying a costly release clause.

Amorim’s impending appointment is also expected to ease Manchester United’s financial burden.

The Premier League club had faced paying around £16.7 million following the dismissal of the Portuguese tactician and his coaching staff earlier this year.

However, by securing a new managerial role so quickly, Amorim will forgo a substantial portion of the compensation package still owed to him by the Red Devils.

The development comes as United continue to rebuild under the leadership of Michael Carrick.
