Former Bayern Munich and Germany defender, Jérôme Boateng, has officially called time on his international career.
The 36-year-old, regarded as one of Germany’s most accomplished players, confirmed his decision in a heartfelt video message on Friday.
“I’ve spent many years playing for great clubs and my country. Along the way, I’ve won, lost, learned, and grown,” Boateng reflected. “Football has given me so much, but now it’s the right moment to move on—not because I must, but because I’m ready. I’m deeply thankful to the fans, my teammates, everyone who supported me, and above all my family and children who stood by me.”
Boateng started his professional journey with Hertha Berlin before spells at Hamburg and Manchester City.
His career peaked during his decade-long stint at Bayern Munich from 2011, where he lifted numerous Bundesliga titles and two Champions League crowns.
With his announcement, German football bids farewell to one of its most decorated yet polarizing modern figures.
