Former Chelsea star, Oscar, was rushed to the ICU earlier this week after collapsing during a training session, prompting urgent medical attention and close monitoring of his condition.
The 34-year-old Brazilian midfielder lost consciousness while undergoing an interval test on an exercise bike at São Paulo’s training facility. He has remained under observation since the incident.
According to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte (via Mirror), Oscar was unconscious for about two minutes.
The frightening episode follows a fractured vertebra he suffered in August.
Although he has returned to the bench twice since then, reports suggest he has been keeping an eye on a potential heart concern after tests during his recovery showed signs of an abnormality.
São Paulo confirmed on Tuesday that Oscar “presented an incident with cardiological changes” and was “promptly attended to by the club’s professionals and the medical team from Einstein Hospital Israelita.”
The club has now issued another update, revealing a confirmed diagnosis of vasovagal syncope.
“Midfielder Oscar remains hospitalised at Einstein Hospital Israelita, where he was admitted on Tuesday afternoon (11) after presenting an incident with cardiological changes during tests carried out at SuperCT.
“An extensive investigation carried out at the hospital confirmed the diagnosis of vasovagal syncope. Oscar remains clinically well and stable, hospitalised in a cardiology unit and will undergo an electrophysiological study this Friday.”
