Former Barcelona forward, Pedro Rodriguez, has announced his retirement from professional football, bringing an end to a career that saw him win major honours at club and international level.
Pedro confirmed his decision on Wednesday in a message shared on social media, saying he was ready to begin a new chapter of his life after years on the pitch.
“I feel the time has come. It is time to take a step forward and begin a new chapter in my life. I leave (the pitch) proud of having achieved my dream, and proud of everyone who supported me in achieving it. Thank you, football, for making me so happy,” he wrote on X.
The 39-year-old came through Barcelona’s famed academy and established himself in the first team during Pep Guardiola’s reign. He was part of the side that won the historic treble and later completed a remarkable sextuple.
With Spain, Pedro was also part of the golden generation that lifted the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and Euro 2012, completing a remarkable collection of major honours.
After leaving Barcelona, Pedro continued his career in England with Chelsea, where he enjoyed a successful spell before moving to Italy to play for Lazio.
His retirement now marks the end of a career decorated with domestic, European and international trophies.
