Former Barcelona manager, Xavi Hernandez, has indicated that his next coaching role could be in international football, saying he is open to managing any national team, including one from Africa.
The 46-year-old has remained out of management since leaving Barcelona in May 2024.
Despite being linked with coaching vacancies at Manchester United, Chelsea, and clubs in Italy and Turkey, the former Spain international has not accepted any offers.
Rather than returning to club football, Xavi said his focus has shifted to international management, a move he believes would offer him more time with his family.
In an interview with Spanish broadcaster RNE, the World Cup winner explained that balancing football with family life has become a priority.
“My next step could be a National team,” Xavi said. “It would suit me, and I want that. I have family. A club wouldn’t allow me as much time with my family; I’ve got young children.”
Xavi also revealed his ambition to coach at major international tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations.
“I’m keen to take part as a coach in a World Cup, EURO, AFCON, an Asian Cup…” Xavi added.
The Barcelona icon enjoyed a glittering playing career before returning to the club as head coach, leading the Catalan giants to the 2022–23 La Liga title before departing two years ago.
