West Ham United claimed a historic 2-0 win at Old Trafford on Sunday, defeating Europa League finalists Manchester United in what marked their first Premier League triumph at the ground in 18 years.
The Hammers secured the result with a goal in each half from Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen.
In a clash of struggling sides this season, the win saw West Ham leapfrog United into 15th place with 40 points and two matches left to play.
The Red Devils, meanwhile, slipped to 16th on 39 points.
The breakthrough came in the 26th minute as West Ham capitalized on a well-executed passing move down the left. Mohammed Kudus delivered a low cross into the box, where Soucek arrived to slot home the opener.
Bowen added the second in the 57th minute following another Kudus run. His shot deflected to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who squared it for Bowen to finish from close range.
Despite the setback, United boss Ruben Amorim emphasized the importance of the upcoming May 21 Europa League final against Tottenham, saying that match remains the team’s main priority.
The May 21 Europa League final against Tottenham, with the victors qualifying for the Champions League, is the team’s focus,” Amorim stated. Still, the limp defeat on Sunday presents a concern as they prepare for the showdown in Bilbao, Spain.
