Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been spotted holding meetings with opposition leaders, sparking intense speculation about his political alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
El-Rufai, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress, recently hosted Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the New Nigerian People’s Party presidential candidate, at his Abuja residence.
This follows his visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, and a meeting with the national chairman of the Social Democratic Party in Abuja in March.
The meetings have fueled rumours that El-Rufai may be aligning with opposition parties, potentially challenging President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
El-Rufai’s criticism of the current administration, including his recent statement on petrol subsidies, has further intensified speculation.
Political analysts believe El-Rufai’s actions may be part of a broader strategy by some northern politicians to challenge President Tinubu in the next election.
However, El-Rufai has not publicly confirmed his intentions or political affiliations.
The developments have sparked intense debate and speculation in Nigeria’s political landscape.
