Eid-el-Fitr: Akpabio, Bamidele urge unity, compassion

Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has extended warm Eid-el-Fitr greetings to Muslims across Nigeria, urging them to uphold the values of compassion, unity, and generosity cultivated during the Ramadan fast.

In a message conveyed through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio congratulated the faithful on the successful completion of the spiritual exercise.

He encouraged Nigerians to continue acts of charity, particularly towards the less privileged, as a reflection of the season’s core teachings.

“This joyous celebration reminds us of the profound values of compassion, forgiveness, and unity that Eid-el-Fitr embodies,” Akpabio said. “As you conclude this important exercise of fasting and spiritual reflection, be reminded of the importance of empathy, kindness, and generosity towards others. May the spirit of Eid inspire us to cultivate compassion, promote understanding, and work towards a more just and harmonious Nigeria.”

He also conveyed his goodwill to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Muslims nationwide, praying for sustained peace, progress, and prosperity in the country and beyond.

Similarly, Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central) felicitated with Muslims on the conclusion of Ramadan, calling for a shift from outdated leadership approaches and a stronger focus on human capital development.

“Eid al-Fitr presents a vivid template of peaceful co-existence, especially in light of recent tragic events such as the bomb explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State,”

Bamidele said. “This season should guide the behavior of every individual, the conduct of our leaders, and the policies of governments at national and subnational levels.”

Bamidele stressed the importance of complementing security efforts with long-term investments in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, nutrition, and social protection.

He also urged religious leaders to promote tolerance, called on socio-cultural groups to embrace dialogue in resolving disputes, and encouraged subnational governments to take proactive steps in combating violent extremism.

He further pointed to ongoing initiatives within the National Assembly, including the constitution review process and the work of the Ad-hoc Committee on the National Security Summit, aimed at addressing insecurity at its roots and enhancing the role of state and local governments in maintaining peace.

“While the National Assembly remains resolute in tightening laws to support the fight against violent extremism, I wish all who celebrate Eid-el-Fitr the warmest celebration,” Bamidele added.
