EFCC releases activists Randy Peter, Mama Pee after hours of questioning

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has released activists Peter Akah, popularly known as Randy Peter, and Precious Oruche, also known as Mama Pee, after both honoured an invitation by the anti-graft agency in Abuja.

The two activists regained their freedom shortly after midnight on Wednesday following several hours of questioning. They were, however, directed to return to the EFCC headquarters on Thursday.

A fellow activist, Justice Cracks, who accompanied them to the commission’s office, confirmed their release in a post shared on X.

According to him, the activists arrived at the EFCC headquarters around 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday and remained there for several hours before they were allowed to leave.

“My dear brother, @Peter4Nigeria, and my sister, @MamaPee__ were invited by the @officialEFCC. I personally accompanied them there on the afternoon of 15th July 2026, at about 1:00 p.m. It was a very long day,” he said.

Justice Cracks added that both activists were released at about midnight after spending roughly 11 hours at the commission’s office.

“They were eventually released at around 12:00 a.m. and were asked to return the following day, 16th July 2026. For now, everything is fine,” he stated.

He also shared a video from the car park of the EFCC headquarters while waiting for the activists.

Earlier, concerns had grown over the whereabouts of the duo after Esther Umoh, who served as the 2023 presidential campaign photographer for Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, disclosed that the activists had not left the EFCC office several hours after honouring the invitation.

“@MamaPee__ and @Peter4Nigeria were invited by the EFCC in Abuja, and as respectful citizens, they honored the invitation today. But as I type this, they are yet to be released by the commission,” Umoh wrote on X.

The prolonged stay at the commission’s headquarters fuelled speculation on social media that the activists had been arrested.

However, Justice Cracks later confirmed that both individuals had been released and would return to the EFCC office as requested.
