Edo IRS urges taxpayers to file returns before March 31

The Edo State Internal Revenue Service has called on residents, professionals, and business operators in the state to file their annual tax returns ahead of the March 31, 2026 deadline.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Executive Chairman of EIRS, John Odior, emphasized that filing taxes is a legal and civic duty.

“Filing your tax return is not optional. It is a statutory, legal, and civic obligation,” Odior said.

“This mandate applies to employees, professionals, entrepreneurs, business owners, online traders, content creators, and tradespeople operating in both the formal and informal sectors.”

Odior explained that the requirement is backed by Section 24(f) of the 1999 Constitution and Section 13 of the Nigeria Tax Administration Act (NTAA) 2025.

To facilitate compliance, the EIRS has transitioned to an electronic filing system. “Taxpayers can now complete the filing process conveniently from home or office,” Odior noted.

He instructed taxpayers to visit www.eirs.gov.ng to download Tax Form A, which must include a completed self-assessment form, total income from all sources for the previous year, details of personal reliefs, tax computations, audited financial statements for business or trade income, a valid taxpayer ID, and proof of tax payment.

Completed forms are to be submitted via email to [email protected]. The agency warned that failure to file, submitting incomplete forms, or providing inaccurate information could attract administrative penalties under the NTAA.

“Tax filing is not just a legal requirement; it is a vital contribution to the growth and development of Edo State,” Odior added.

He encouraged taxpayers seeking assistance to visit the nearest EIRS branch or contact the agency’s helpline at 0813 097 0146 for guidance.
