Global music star, Ed Sheeran, has revealed he is recovering after a month-long struggle with shingles, while also unveiling a newly shaved head that he says marks a “fresh start” in his life.
The 35-year-old shared the update with his 48.7 million followers on Instagram on Tuesday, posting a carousel of images that introduced fans to his new look.
In the caption, he explained the change, writing: “Yes, I’ve shaved my hair. I wanted to shave it to signify a fresh start. A lot of new beginnings in my life (at the moment). I love it, thinking of keeping it this way.”
Alongside the style change, Sheeran opened up about his recent health battle, saying: “I’ve had shingles for the last month, wouldn’t recommend it, but on the mend now.”
Shingles is a viral infection that typically causes a painful rash and can be accompanied by symptoms such as tingling sensations, headaches, and a general feeling of illness, according to guidance from the National Health Service.
Beyond his personal update, the award-winning singer also gave fans a glimpse into his upcoming plans, expressing excitement about returning to South America for his Loop tour.
He said it had been “too long” since he last performed in the region, confirming scheduled shows in Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Mexico, and Chile.
The announcement comes after he recently wrapped up performances in Australia and New Zealand, adding that he “can’t wait to get back cracking on that” when the tour resumes next month.
In a lighter moment, Sheeran shared that he had “finally” caught up with the final season of the hit series Stranger Things and recommended Demon Copperhead, describing it as “brilliant.”
He also revealed a growing interest in collecting vinyl records during his downtime.
The post featured snapshots of the singer playing guitar, relaxing with music, and even a screenshot of his Netflix page.
It quickly drew reactions from fans and fellow artists, including Myles Smith, who joked about the haircut, commenting: “Need a skin fade bruv.”
Sheeran, known for chart-topping hits like The A Team, Perfect, Sing, and Don’t, has amassed 14 UK number-one singles and nine UK number-one albums.
His most recent album, Play, was released last September.
