Díaz fires Bayern to German Super Cup win

Harry Kane and Luis Díaz were both on the scoresheet as Bayern Munich clinched the German Super Cup with a 2-1 victory over Stuttgart on Saturday evening.

Vincent Kompany’s men looked sharp from the start, with Díaz making his competitive debut on the left flank following his €75 million (£66m/$88m) switch from Liverpool earlier this summer.

The Bavarians struck first in the 18th minute through Kane. Leon Goretzka initiated the move in midfield, finding Michael Olise, who slipped a clever pass into Kane’s path.

Stuttgart defender Luca Jaquez initially intercepted but failed to control the ball cleanly, allowing the England captain to pounce and fire home with his first touch.

Bayern pressed for a second before the interval but Stuttgart’s backline stood firm to keep the deficit at one goal heading into the break.

The second half started with a scare for Bayern as Kane was shown a yellow card for a reckless challenge in the 57th minute.

Not long after, Olise squandered a golden chance when he headed Serge Gnabry’s cross over the bar from close range.

Stuttgart came close to equalising in the 74th minute through Jamie Leweling, whose thunderous strike took a deflection off Dayot Upamecano. Manuel Neuer, however, reacted superbly, tipping the ball over the bar.

Moments later, Bayern doubled their advantage. Díaz, lively throughout his debut, timed his run perfectly to meet Gnabry’s pinpoint delivery and slotted home from close range.

The Colombian marked the moment with a heartfelt tribute to his former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota, copying his signature ‘Gamer’ celebration.

Stuttgart managed a late consolation when Leweling headed in during stoppage time, but it wasn’t enough to stop Bayern from lifting the trophy.

The win handed Neuer his eighth German Super Cup, drawing him level with Thomas Müller’s record.

For Díaz, it was a debut to remember—his flair, energy, and decisive goal proved vital in sealing Bayern’s first piece of silverware this season.

Meanwhile, Stuttgart defender Jaquez will reflect on a costly mistake that handed Kane the opener on an otherwise solid defensive outing.
