Customs record ₦7.28tn revenue in 2025

The Nigeria Customs Service achieved a historic revenue milestone in 2025, generating a total of ₦7.281 trillion, the agency announced on Monday. The figure exceeded the approved annual target of ₦6.584 trillion by ₦697 billion, representing a growth of more than 10 percent above expectations.

Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, disclosed the figures during the 2026 World Customs Day celebration in Abuja, attributing the strong performance to reforms, technology deployment, and improved engagement with stakeholders.

He said, “Ladies and gentlemen, even as we continue to protect society and streamline our procedures, it is critical to ensure the financial health of the state. I am pleased to report that in 2025, the Nigeria Customs Service collected ₦7.281 trillion, surpassing our target of ₦6.584 trillion by ₦697 billion.”

Adeniyi noted that the revenue represented a 19 percent increase from the ₦6.1 trillion collected in 2024.

“This growth is not the result of aggressive enforcement but stems from structural and operational improvements within the Service,” he emphasized.

The Customs chief also highlighted that the revenue gains were achieved without hindering legitimate trade.

“The improvements came from better compliance, digital tools, disciplined enforcement, and enhanced collaboration with the private sector,” Adeniyi explained.

He further reassured that the agency balanced its revenue collection mandate with trade facilitation obligations, particularly in line with regional and global trade agreements.
