The Nigeria Customs Service has appointed Comptroller Adebola Salawu as the new head of its Lagos Industrial Area Command.
The appointment, announced on the Service’s official X handle on Saturday, follows the retirement of Comptroller Sarah Wadinda, who recently bowed out after years of service.
A statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Juliana Tomo, confirmed that the formal handover took place at the Command’s headquarters in Festac Town.
Tomo noted that the outgoing comptroller left behind a legacy of service and community development, citing projects carried out under the Customs Cares initiative. These included a water treatment plant, an e-library, a photocopier, and refurbished toilets donated to Festac Senior Grammar School.
“The success of these projects was made possible through the collaboration and support of stakeholders,” Tomo said.
In her farewell message, Wadinda expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for trusting her with the responsibility of leading the Command. She also urged officers to remain committed to supporting her successor.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to serve and for the cooperation I enjoyed throughout my tenure. I ask that the same level of support be extended to Comptroller Salawu,” Wadinda said.
Speaking after assuming office, Salawu praised his predecessor’s achievements and pledged to consolidate on them.
“I assure officers and stakeholders of my commitment to improving excise operations,” Salawu said. “We must embrace the Unified Customs Management System (B’Odogwu) and strengthen in-house training and stakeholder engagement. Together, we can enhance excise performance and contribute to national economic growth.”
