Africa Magic opens entries for 11th AMVCA

The 11th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards commenced on Friday with a vibrant Cultural Day celebration, signaling the start of a weekend filled with glitz and entertainment in Lagos.

The event showcased a colourful display of Africa’s rich heritage as celebrities turned up in stunning traditional outfits. Notable figures such as reality TV stars Wanni x Handi, Fairme David, Saga, and Liquorose, alongside Nollywood stars Mercy Aigbe, Adedimeji Lateef, Mo Bimpe, and media personality OAP Dotun, made striking appearances, captivating fans and guests alike.

Organized annually by MultiChoice, the AMVCA honors excellence in television, film, digital content, and entertainment across Africa, with a particular focus on Nollywood.

The main award night is scheduled for Saturday and will be broadcast live on all Africa Magic channels.

Nominations for this year’s edition were announced on March 23, featuring categories such as Best Scripted Series, Best Digital Content Creator, Best Documentary, and Best Unscripted M-Net Original, among others. The awards reflect works released between January 1 and December 31, 2024.

Among the standout productions earning multiple nominations are Lisabi: The Uprising, Skeleton Coast, House of Ga’a, and Freedom Way, all competing in major categories like Best Movie and Best Director.

In the Best Lead Actor category, nominees include Gideon Okeke (Tokunbo), Stan Nze (Suspicion), Femi Adebayo (Seven Doors), and Adedimeji Lateef (Lisabi: The Uprising). For Best Lead Actress, the contenders are Chioma Chukwuka (Seven Doors), Bimbo Ademoye (Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre), and Uche Montana (Thinline).

Winners will be determined through a blend of public voting and evaluations by a professional judging panel.
