A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday granted bail to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), alongside his wife and son, in the sum of ₦500 million each.
Justice Emeka Nwite, who presided over the matter, imposed stringent conditions for their release, including the provision of landed property documents and the surrender of all travel papers.
According to the court, each defendant must produce a surety who owns verifiable landed property in highbrow areas of the Federal Capital Territory, specifically Asokoro, Maitama, or Gwarinpa.
The judge directed that the property documents be submitted to the court for verification.
“The documents of the landed properties shall be verified by the Deputy Chief Registrar of this court,” Justice Nwite ruled. He further ordered that the sureties must “depose to an affidavit of means to establish their financial capacity.”
The court also restricted the movement of the former Attorney-General, ordering him to deposit his international passport and other travel documents with the court.
Justice Nwite warned that Malami “must not travel out of the country without prior permission of the court.”
The ruling was reported by Channels Television.
Further details on the case are expected as proceedings continue.
