Chelsea’s João Pedro, Andrey Santos miss Brazil World Cup squad

Chelsea forwards Joao Pedro and Andrey Santos have been left out of Brazil’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to World Soccer Talk.

Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed the final squad on Monday during a press conference at the Museu do Amanhã in Rio de Janeiro.

Although much of the attention focused on the return of Neymar, Joao Pedro’s omission quickly became one of the major talking points following the announcement.

The Chelsea striker later reacted publicly to the decision, posting a calm and reflective message on Instagram.

“I tried to give my best at all times. Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to fulfill this dream of representing my country in a World Cup, but I remain calm and focused, as I always try to be.

“Joys and frustrations are part of football. From now on, I wish good luck to everyone who is there and I will be just another fan cheering for them to bring the sixth title home,” he wrote.

Pedro had enjoyed an impressive season with Chelsea FC, playing a key role in the club’s 2025 FIFA Club World Cup triumph.

The striker scored twice in the semifinal and added another goal in the final, while registering 20 goals and nine assists in 49 appearances during his first campaign at Stamford Bridge.

Despite featuring in three of Ancelotti’s five Brazil squads over the past year, the 24-year-old ultimately failed to secure a place in the team heading to the World Cup in North America.
