Xabi Alonso has emerged as a strong contender for the vacant Chelsea managerial position, according to talkSPORT.
The former Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen coach has reportedly held discussions with Chelsea over the possibility of taking charge at Stamford Bridge ahead of next season.
Sources familiar with the process said the talks have progressed positively, with Alonso believed to be interested in testing himself in the Premier League.
Chelsea are currently searching for a replacement for Liam Rosenior and are hoping to appoint a new manager before the 2026 FIFA World Cup begins on June 11.
Among the other candidates under consideration are Marco Silva of Fulham and outgoing Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola.
Chelsea are also monitoring Oliver Glasner of Crystal Palace, as well as former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis, who previously managed Flamengo.
Luis had been discussed internally before Chelsea appointed Rosenior, although conversations reportedly focused more on a possible move to Strasbourg.
The 40-year-old Brazilian is still working towards obtaining his A-license after his surprise dismissal in early March.
Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas also remains admired by the club, though he has publicly stated his intention to stay with Como.
Meanwhile, Francesco Farioli is another coach Chelsea appreciate, but sources close to the Porto manager suggest he is likely to remain in Portugal.
Should Alonso eventually take the Chelsea job, it could boost Palace’s hopes of persuading Iraola to replace Glasner at Selhurst Park.
