Charlton, Bolton reportedly target Nigeria goalkeeper Okonkwo

Nigeria international goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo, has reportedly attracted interest from EFL Championship sides Charlton Athletic and Bolton Wanderers, with the summer transfer window approaching its final weeks, according to Sports Illustrated.

Okonkwo’s position at Wrexham has come under scrutiny following the club’s record acquisition of goalkeeper Anthony Patterson from Sunderland.

The Nigerian now sits behind Patterson and Danny Ward in the competition for the starting spot at the Racecourse Ground.

The 24-year-old is also entering the final year of his contract, leaving Wrexham with a decision to make over his future.

The club risks losing the goalkeeper for nothing next summer if it fails to agree a transfer before the current window or the January transfer window closes.

Okonkwo initially joined Wrexham on loan during the 2023/24 season before completing a permanent move the following campaign.

He had previously spent 15 years with Arsenal, joining the London club as an eight-year-old.

The goalkeeper played an important role in Wrexham’s successive promotions, helping the Welsh club climb from League Two to the Championship.

He has made 121 appearances for the club, recording 47 clean sheets while conceding 127 goals.

At international level, Okonkwo was part of the Super Eagles squad that won the 2026 Unity Cup.

He kept clean sheets in Nigeria’s victories over Zimbabwe and Jamaica.

With Charlton and Bolton reportedly monitoring his situation, Okonkwo’s future at Wrexham could become one of the transfer stories to watch before the window shuts.
