Canadian pop superstar, Justin Bieber, made an unexpected stop in Dundee over the weekend, where he filmed the video for his new single Bad Honey inside Abandon Ship, a popular city centre bar.
The 31-year-old singer reportedly arrived in Scotland by private jet on Thursday and spent part of the weekend golfing at St Andrews and Gleneagles.
The video, now uploaded to Bieber’s Instagram page, has already drawn over three million views.
According to Rae Wright, the bar’s manager, Bieber’s visit was completely unplanned.
“It was just a standard Saturday night and then he waltzes in with three or four people,” she recalled. “He put his speaker on, set the place up, put a couple of lights on and then he just started filming.”
At first, Rae wasn’t convinced it was really him.
“I’m used to the baby Justin Bieber with the hair flick and stuff, but obviously I’ve followed him a little bit,” she said. “But no-one walks around Dundee in a green beanie looking like that. And then my manager gave me the side eye that said, no this is really the Biebs.”
Rae described Bieber as “lovely,” adding that he took time to engage warmly with both the bar staff and patrons.
“He chatted to the bar staff like we were actually people, which a lot of people don’t seem to do,” she said. “It will be nice when we’ve actually processed it all and think, wow, Justin Bieber was here.”
Bieber shared the video online on Monday night, captioning it: “Bad Honey video for your headtops.”
Abandon Ship later confirmed the surprise shoot on its Facebook page, writing, “You might have heard we had a special visitor over the weekend. Enjoy Justin Bieber laying down a new video for Bad Honey live at Abandon Ship right here in Dundee, Scotland.”
Clips circulating on social media also show the star enjoying drinks with locals, while he later posted photos of himself sipping a beer on a St Andrews street Sunday morning.
Earlier that weekend, he was spotted at Gleneagles Hotel, where he played the piano and performed his track Walking Away.
