Cagliari forward Yael Trepy is receiving intensive care in a Sardinian hospital after reportedly losing consciousness in a swimming pool.
The Italian club confirmed on Monday that the 20-year-old striker is being treated at Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari, following an incident reported to have occurred at a villa on Sunday afternoon.
According to Sardinian newspaper Unione Sarda, Trepy was airlifted to the hospital after the reported pool accident. Details surrounding what happened remain limited.
Cagliari said it was closely monitoring the player’s condition while maintaining contact with both the medical team and his family.
“The club is in constant contact with the healthcare facility and the player’s family and is closely monitoring the progress of his condition,” said Cagliari.
“At this time, Cagliari Calcio’s thoughts are with Yael and his family. The club also requests the utmost respect for their privacy and will provide any updates when available.”
Trepy had been given the weekend off with his Cagliari teammates following Friday’s 1-0 Coppa Italia victory over Arezzo. The young striker featured for 54 minutes in that match.
The France-born forward has been part of Cagliari’s setup since joining the club’s youth system in 2022. He previously developed at Paris-based US Creteil-Lusitanos before moving to Italy.
Trepy made eight Serie A appearances last season and scored once as he continued his progression into Cagliari’s senior squad.
The club has not provided further details about his condition, while reports regarding the circumstances of the incident have not been independently confirmed.
