German Bundesliga club Schalke 04 have officially announced the signing of Nigerian-born striker Junior Adamu.
Adamu joins Schalke from fellow Bundesliga side SC Freiburg after putting pen to paper on a contract that runs until 30 June 2029.
The 25-year-old spent the previous season on loan at Scottish Premiership champions Celtic, where he impressed with strong performances and played a key role in helping the club secure a domestic double.
A welcome boost for Schalke
Schalke’s Director of Professional Football, Youri Mulder, welcomed the arrival of the forward, highlighting the qualities he brings to the squad and his suitability to the team’s style of play.
“With Junior, we are strengthening our squad with a player who meets the requirements of our playing style. He works hard off the ball and offers his teammates passing options with his deep, quick runs,” Mulder told the club’s official website.
“Junior is a team player who can demonstrate his strengths in several attacking positions and in different playing systems.”
Adamu eager for fresh challenge
Adamu says he is looking forward to the new challenge and is motivated to succeed at his new club.
“In every conversation we had, it became clear to me why the coach and the sporting director wanted me on their team. The trust shown by those in charge and the clear playing philosophy were ultimately the reasons for me to play for this club with its enthusiastic fans,” said Adamu.
