Brighton sign Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna from Swedish side AIK Stockholm

Brighton and Hove Albion have completed the signing of Nigerian winger, Zadok Yohanna, from Swedish side AIK Stockholm on a five-year contract.

The 18-year-old right-sided forward underwent his medical on Saturday, with the £21.5million transfer set to be officially finalised once the summer transfer window opens on June 15.

According to The Athletic, Newcastle United had shown interest in the youngster, especially after their sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona in a deal reported to be worth up to €80million (£69.3m; $93.2m).

Yohanna has enjoyed a promising start to his senior career, registering two goals and three assists in ten appearances during the 2026 season, with AIK sitting 10th in the standings.

He also featured in six Allsvenskan matches in 2025 and has scored three times in the Swedish Cup, despite this being his first full campaign at senior level.

Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler praised the young winger following the announcement, highlighting his attacking qualities.

“I’m looking forward to working with Zadok,” Hurzeler said in Saturday’s release. “Having seen his games and his attributes, he is a player that can impact games in the final third.

“He’s still young, and will need time to adapt to the club and Premier League, but he’s an exciting player to watch and he brings the kind of creativity we know our fans will enjoy.

“He’s dynamic, has pace and likes to take players on. His attributes and ability will be a real addition to our attacking options.”

Meanwhile, The Athletic also reported in May that Brighton were in discussions to sign Portuguese right-back Costinha from Greek champions Olympiacos, having tracked him throughout the season.

The proposed deal is believed to be worth around £11million.

Since those negotiations began, former sporting director Jason Ayto has departed the club after only nine months in charge, with Mike Cave appointed as his replacement.
