Jake Paul drove himself to the hospital for evaluation after suffering a suspected double jaw break during his stoppage defeat to Anthony Joshua in Miami, the United States.
The American YouTuber-turned-boxer went six rounds with the two-time heavyweight world champion before the fight was stopped, failing to beat the count following multiple knockdowns.
Paul hit the canvas twice in the fifth and sixth rounds and confirmed in post-fight comments that he believed his jaw was “definitely” broken. He later shared an x-ray on social media, revealing the double fracture along his jawline.
Despite missing the post-fight news conference due to the injury, Paul joked about his future, claiming he could face former four-weight world champion Saul Canelo Alvarez “in 10 days”.
“A broken jaw is very common in sports, particularly in boxing or MMA,” said Most Valuable Promotions chief Nakisa Bidarian. “The recovery time is four to six weeks.”
The 28-year-old Paul entered the bout as a massive underdog against his more experienced opponent, relying on speed and footwork to evade Joshua’s powerful punches. The fight drew criticism due to the size and experience gap between the two fighters.
Paul indicated he plans to take a short hiatus from boxing. “We will heal the broken jaw, come back and fight people my weight. I’m going for the cruiserweight world title,” he said. “I’m going to take a little break. I’ve been going hard for six years.”
Known for his unpredictability, Paul has built a career on shaking up the sport. Only months ago, the idea of a bout with Joshua seemed improbable, but now it has been checked off his list.
Before facing Joshua, Paul had been campaigning at cruiserweight, with the WBA ranking him at number 14 in July. He has since dropped one spot, making a return to that division a logical step if he aims to pursue a world title.
Bidarian added that Paul “drove himself to hospital” after the fight and could need “four to six weeks” to recover fully. Once cleared to compete in 2026, Paul might target higher-ranked opponents in the WBA cruiserweight standings, with Manchester’s Pat Brown, undefeated in five professional fights, being a potential candidate.
Alternatively, Paul has continued to express interest in facing four-weight world champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, while a rematch with Tommy Fury, the only other fighter to have defeated him—remains a lingering possibility.
