Bayern’s Kompany rejects World Cup punditry, priotises family time

FC Bayern Munich manager, Vincent Kompany, has rejected multiple approaches to work as a television pundit during the upcoming World Cup, choosing instead to prioritise rest and family time.

The Belgian coach attracted interest from several English broadcasters ahead of the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

However, Kompany quickly dismissed the idea of taking on media duties during his break.

“No chance, no chance,” he said, cutting in before a question referencing the report was even completed.

“What am I supposed to do, work as a TV pundit on holiday? I won’t have a family left in Munich next year,” he added during a press conference ahead of Bayern’s cup semi-final clash with Bayer Leverkusen.

He reinforced his position with humour, saying, “Why should I work as a TV pundit while I’m on holiday? Then I won’t have a family left in Munich next year,” prompting laughter in the room.

Reports from journalist Mike Keegan suggest the interest from English media was partly fueled by Kompany’s close working relationship with Harry Kane at Bayern.

Despite previously appearing as a pundit for major networks, the former defender has opted against mixing work with his time off after a demanding season.

Fresh from clinching their 35th Bundesliga title, Bayern now turn their attention to the DFB-Pokal, where they face Leverkusen in a high-stakes semi-final.

A win would send them into their first final since 2020.

Kompany will, however, be without key players Serge Gnabry, Lennart Karl and Tom Bischof due to injuries.

Focus is now shifting to Jamal Musiala, who is nearing full fitness after a prolonged spell on the sidelines.

Kompany remains optimistic about the midfielder’s return, stating he is “in good form” and “very close to his best level.”

Bayern are also preparing for a blockbuster UEFA Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain, scheduled for April 28 and May 6.

With Gnabry unavailable, Musiala is expected to play a key role again, having already made a major impact in the quarter-final against Real Madrid.

Coming off the bench, he changed the game with a brilliant run that forced a booking from Eduardo Camavinga before setting up a late equaliser that helped Bayern secure progression.
