Bayer Leverkusen’s Nathan Tella denies snubbing Super Eagles call-ups

Bayer Leverkusen winger, Nathan Tella, has addressed and dismissed claims suggesting he intentionally snubbed invitations to represent Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles.

Tella, who has earned only one cap for the three-time African champions, has previously withdrawn from the squad on multiple occasions, citing injuries as the reason.

These absences had led to speculation and accusations that he was unwilling to commit to the national team.

Speaking in an interview with NFF TV, the former Southampton player clarified his position, “It’s good. You know, I’m happy to be back. I think there’s been this perception that I didn’t want to play for the national team, and that’s never been the case,” he said.

“I’ve just been unfortunate with an injury happening the last time I got called up.”

Now part of the Super Eagles squad taking part in the Unity Cup invitational tournament, the 25-year-old emphasized his dedication to wearing the green and white jersey.

“I’m happy. I’m happy to be here, happy to be back, and always happy and honored to represent,” Tella stated.

“I mean, it gives me a chance to connect, connect to my roots, represent the country of my family, myself, and gives me a chance to play with pride.”

With this latest opportunity, Tella looks to put past doubts behind him and prove his commitment to the national team on the pitch.
