Chelsea defender, Tosin Adarabioyo, has addressed ongoing speculation about his international career, firmly denying claims that he turned down a chance to play for Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
Eligible to represent both England and Nigeria, the 27-year-old centre-back made these clarifications following Chelsea’s historic success in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Since joining Chelsea, Adarabioyo has quickly established himself as a vital part of their defense.
In a candid video shared on social media, he responded to the rumours about his national team allegiance.
Expressing surprise at the persistent reports, Adarabioyo said, “So, both of those pieces of news are false.”
“Those pieces of informstion are false. I’ve never turned down Nigeria and never had any conversations with them to say that I will be going to Nigeria,” he added.
“At a point last season, there was a little bit conversation, I told the club obviously I just wanted to focus on football. In my last year at Fulham and I just want to have solid running. Now I’m at Chelsea, my first year which I want to concentrate on again and I think now is going to be the time that I need to make decisions,” he explained.
For years, there has been speculation that Adarabioyo rejected Nigeria’s call-ups in favor of aiming for a spot in the England squad. However, the defender’s statement makes it clear that no such discussions ever took place, dismissing those claims as baseless.
His comments are expected to spark renewed interest from Nigerian fans and officials who have long hoped to see the talented defender represent the Super Eagles.
With his international future still open, Adarabioyo’s recent remarks suggest he remains open to selection if the opportunity presents itself.
Following Chelsea’s remarkable European achievement, all eyes will now be on Adarabioyo as both England and Nigeria watch closely for his next decision.
