Bassey confident Super Eagles can win AFCON title

Super Eagles defender, Calvin Bassey, has voiced strong belief that Nigeria is now ready to claim the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title in Morocco.

The Fulham defender, who was a key figure in the 2023 AFCON final where Nigeria fell 2-1 to hosts Ivory Coast, shared his thoughts with the club’s official website, emphasizing the team’s growth and experience.

“Yeah 100%. I think the last AFCON I was 23. I have matured and a lot of the team have matured and we have gained a lot of experience. So, it would be good for the team and Alex different roles now, he is becoming more of the leadership role,” Bassey said.

Drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda, the Super Eagles are considered strong contenders to lift the trophy in Morocco.

Nigeria will kick off their campaign against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars on Tuesday in the historic city of Fés, aiming to delight fans both at home and in the diaspora, especially after missing out on qualification for next year’s FIFA World Cup.

Three days later, the Eagles will face their North African rivals, the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia, before concluding the group stage against Uganda’s Cranes on December 30.
