The Ogun State Government has announced that the final burial rites for the late Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, will take place today, Monday, July 14, 2025.
According to a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the monarch will be buried at Ogbagba Court, Igbeba in Ijebu Ode at exactly 4:00 p.m. this evening.
Oba Adetona, who reigned for 65 years, passed away on Sunday, July 13, at the age of 91. His death marks the end of an era in Ijebuland, as he was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential and longest-serving traditional rulers.
In his statement, Mr. Talabi urged the people of Ogun State to keep the royal family in their thoughts and prayers during this period of mourning.
“We ask all residents to join us in paying tribute to the legacy of a monarch whose reign was defined by courage, wisdom, and devotion to the service of his people,” Talabi said.
