Aviation unions under the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency have suspended their planned industrial action, citing encouraging progress in negotiations for improved pay and benefits.
According to The PUNCH, the workers had earlier announced an indefinite withdrawal of services beginning Monday, August 11, 2025, over unresolved remuneration issues.
However, in a joint statement on Friday, the unions said they were deferring the strike following assurances from the agency’s management and intervention by the Ministry of Aviation.
According to the statement signed by the Secretary General of the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals, AbdulRasaq Saidu; Deputy General Secretary of the National Union of Air Transport Employees, Odinaka Igbokwe; Principal Deputy General Secretary of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, Frances Akinjole; and General Secretary of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees, Alo Lawrence, the decision was made in “good faith.”
“We note the release of the ‘no objection’ letter from the Budget Office to the National Incomes, Salaries and Wages Commission on August 7, 2025,” the statement read.
“We also acknowledge the management of NAMA’s strenuous efforts and expectations to ensure payment of the new remuneration alongside August salaries.”
The unions credited the development to “the hard work of NAMA’s management and the intervention of the Honourable Minister of Aviation and other senior ministry officials.”
They added: “Based on these positive steps, our unions have resolved to defer the strike action scheduled for Monday, August 11, 2025, while closely monitoring the situation until the end of the month.”
The coalition urged all NAMA staff to “maintain a hopeful watch” as discussions continue.
