APGA mandates video evidence for Anambra primaries

The All Progressives Grand Alliance has introduced compulsory video recording for its ongoing primary elections in Anambra State, saying results without visual evidence will not be recognised by the party.

The directive, announced on Saturday, is aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and credibility during the primary election process across wards in the state.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, APGA said electoral officers, aspirants and party members participating in the exercise must comply strictly with the new guidelines.

“The All Progressives Grand Alliance is announcing the use of mandatory video documentation for its ongoing primary elections in various wards across the state. This is to ensure transparency and credibility,” the statement said.

According to the party, submission of detailed video evidence from polling wards will now determine whether election results are accepted and validated.

“The submission of comprehensive video evidence from the wards will serve as a mandatory condition for the acceptance and validation of election results,” Opara stated.

APGA explained that the recordings must capture key stages of the voting process, including accreditation of eligible party members and delegates, queue formation, vote counting and declaration of results.

“The video recordings must clearly capture the accreditation of eligible party members and delegates, queue formation during voting, counting of votes with figures visibly displayed and audibly announced,” the statement added.

The party further noted that electoral officers must ensure that final results entered into prescribed forms and other electoral documents are properly recorded on video.

“They must also show the announcement of results by the Electoral Officer, as well as the recording of final results in prescribed forms and other electoral documents,” Opara said.

The party warned that failure to comply with the directive would invalidate election outcomes.

“Any result not accompanied by the required video documentation would not be accepted or validated by the party,” the statement stressed.

APGA also urged electoral teams and aspirants to ensure recording devices are functional and capable of producing clear audio and visual evidence throughout the exercise.

“All electoral teams and aspirants are advised to ensure that recording devices are functional, adequately powered, and capable of producing clear audio and visual records of the exercise,” the party said.

Monitoring of the primaries in some locations, including Awada Wards I and II and Amawbia Wards I and II, showed that accreditation commenced around 10 a.m., while turnout was reported to be substantial in several wards.

The exercise was said to have progressed peacefully in areas visited, including Awka Wards I, II, III and IV.

Meanwhile, reports indicated that some notable aspirants had withdrawn from the primaries for undisclosed reasons, although the party had yet to issue an official statement on the development.
