The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Mr. Sly Ezeokenwa, has hailed the conduct of Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State, describing it as “one of the most transparent and well-organised elections” in the state’s history.
Ezeokenwa lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission for delivering a free, credible, and peaceful poll, noting that the exercise marked a new standard in Anambra’s electoral process.
He made the remarks in Awka on Sunday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria while reacting to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s victory at the just-concluded governorship election.
INEC had declared Governor Soludo the winner of the November 8 poll. The Returning Officer, Prof. Edogah Omoregie, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, announced that Soludo of APGA secured 422,664 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 99,445 votes.
According to Ezeokenwa, the state had never experienced an election conducted with such transparency and organisation.
“INEC deserves commendation for ensuring transparency and fairness throughout the process,” he said.
The APGA chairman also extended appreciation to the people of Anambra and members of the media for their exemplary roles during the election.
“I thank residents for their exemplary behaviour and for maintaining peace before, during and after the polls. I also commend the media for their professionalism in reporting the process,” he added.
