APC chieftain Maikaya declares Nasarawa governorship bid

Nasarawa police warn against violence ahead of appeal court judgment

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State, Muhammad Maikaya, has formally declared his intention to contest the state’s governorship election.

Maikaya made his ambition known on Wednesday while speaking with journalists in Lafia, the state capital, stating that his decision was driven by a desire to contribute more meaningfully to society and improve the welfare of the people.
According to him, his aspiration is rooted in a sense of responsibility to uplift others.

“When one has enough, it becomes necessary to look out for others who are still in need. For me, it is about adding value, making people happier, and contributing to a better society,” he said.

Despite entering the race, the APC stalwart urged residents of the state to continue supporting the current administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule, noting that there was still room for more achievements before the end of the tenure.

“The governor deserves our support to deliver even more. Though he is nearing the end of his tenure, there is still a lot that can be accomplished,” Maikaya added.

He emphasised that his political ambition is not driven by personal gain but by a track record of service and commitment to community development.

A supporter who spoke on his behalf highlighted some of his humanitarian efforts, particularly the provision of solar-powered boreholes in Lafia and surrounding communities to improve access to clean water.

“Maikaya’s approach goes beyond political rhetoric. He has demonstrated humility, respect for institutions, and a consistent commitment to impactful projects,” the supporter said.
