Anambra security outfit arrests native doctor over alleged unlawful practices

Anambra houseboy kills employee with pestle

A native doctor based in Nnewi, John Ezenagu, popularly known as “Mmou Mmili Afulu Anya,” has been arrested by the Agunechemba Security Outfit in Anambra State for allegedly violating provisions of the state’s Homeland Security Law.

Ezenagu was reportedly taken to his residence on Friday by security operatives for a search and questioning over the nature of his activities.

Speaking during the parade of the suspect, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, alleged that the native doctor had been luring young men and women with promises of instant wealth.

According to him, the suspect encouraged individuals to bathe in a stream located behind his residence as part of rituals meant to make them rich.
“Such acts are against the Homeland Security Law.

He had earlier been cautioned over these activities but continued with the practice,” Emeakayi said.

He added that the suspect would be handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and possible prosecution if found culpable.

However, while addressing journalists, Ezenagu apologised for his actions and pleaded for forgiveness from the governor and the people of the state.

“I have sinned. I appeal to Governor Soludo for forgiveness and promise to turn a new leaf. I vow never to deceive young people in the state again,” he said.

He also claimed that he dredged the river near his residence and believed he had rights over it, promising not to engage in activities that could pollute the stream.

The Homeland Security Law, signed by Governor Soludo in 2025 after passage by the Anambra State House of Assembly, was designed to strengthen community-based security and promote public participation in maintaining safety across the state.
