The Anambra State Government has confirmed that a 10-year-old boy who was allegedly brutalised by his guardians in Awada, Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government Area, is currently receiving medical treatment under state protection.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Esther Onyekesi, disclosed this while speaking to journalists in Awka on Monday, expressing appreciation to residents who helped bring the case to the attention of authorities.
“I want to thank the good, caring people of Anambra for bringing this case to our notice,” Onyekesi said. “The boy is receiving treatment now. My team and the Obosi community women leader visited him.”
She condemned the alleged abuse and assured that those responsible would be prosecuted.
“The offenders must face the law for this barbaric act. If you see something, please say something,” she added.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the incident gained public attention after a viral video showed the minor with severe injuries reportedly inflicted by his guardian, a woman and her husband.
Although the motive for the alleged abuse was not immediately established, another video circulating on social media showed residents of Awada, Obosi, storming the suspects’ residence and confronting them over the incident.
Authorities say the child remains under medical care and state protection as investigations continue.
