American tennis star, Coco Gauff, has criticized the decision to broadcast her visible frustration after her Australian Open loss to Elina Svitolina on Tuesday.
Svitolina needed just 59 minutes to overpower a struggling Gauff 6-1, 6-2, securing her first-ever spot in the Melbourne Park semifinals at the age of 31.
Gauff’s disappointment was evident as she quickly left the court, admitting that she had tried to find a secluded spot to vent her frustration by smashing her racket on the ground.
The third seed believed she had found a private corner of the stadium complex, but cameras captured the outburst, which quickly went viral across social media.
“Certain moments, the same thing happened to Aryna (Sabalenka) after I played her in the final of the U.S. Open – I feel like they don’t need to broadcast,” Gauff said during her post-match news conference.
“I tried to go somewhere where I thought there wasn’t a camera because I don’t necessarily like breaking rackets.
“I broke one racket (at the) French Open, I think, and I said I would never do it again on court because I don’t feel like that’s a good representation. So, yeah, maybe some conversations can be had.”
