Algeria coach, Vladimir Petković, has expressed his disappointment following the Desert Foxes’ 2-0 loss to Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals at the Grand Stade de Marrakech on Saturday night.
The defeat marked Algeria’s first setback in the tournament, abruptly ending their campaign. Both teams struggled to create clear chances in the opening 45 minutes, but Nigeria gradually asserted control.
The Super Eagles broke the deadlock just two minutes into the second half when Victor Osimhen powered a header past Algeria goalkeeper Luca Zidane from Bruno Onyemaechi’s precise cross.
Ten minutes later, Akor Adams sealed the win, elegantly dribbling past Zidane to slot into an empty net.
Speaking after the match, Petković acknowledged the frustration of his squad but vowed to shift focus to the World CuQ
“Our players are disappointed and devastated after the match. They performed admirably throughout the tournament.
“This chapter is over, and another competition awaits. We must hold our heads high despite this exit,” he said, as reported by CAFonline.
