AFCON: Algeria won’t focus only on Osimhen, Lookman, says midfielder
Algeria midfielder, Ramiz Zerrouki has insisted that the Desert Foxes will not focus solely on containing Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman in their upcoming clash with the Super Eagles, noting that Nigeria boasts several other capable players.
Both Osimhen and Lookman have been in fine form at this year’s AFCON in Morocco, scoring three goals apiece.
The duo has also contributed assists, with Lookman providing four and Osimhen one.
Beyond the pair, Nigeria has demonstrated attacking depth, with Raphael Onyedika scoring twice and Akor Adams and Wilfred Ndidi also finding the net.
“It’s not only the two of them, all the Nigerian players have their quality, they are a very good team and we are going to prepare ourselves to face them and like I said it’s going to be a big game,” Zerrouki told journalists ahead of Algeria’s Friday training session.
When asked if Algeria feels pressure ahead of the showdown with the unbeaten Super Eagles, Zerrouki said: “Pressure is always a thing in a tournament when you have teams who performed well and they face each other and one has to go out.
“For us we are going to do everything and see how it goes.”
Algeria reached the quarter-finals by edging DR Congo 1-0 after extra time, while Nigeria secured their spot with a commanding 4-0 victory over Mozambique.
