A fresh family dispute has emerged between Christian entertainers Femi Ajewole, popularly known as Alfa Sule, and his younger brother, Ayo Ajewole, known as Woli Agba, over the ownership and identity of their late father’s church.
The controversy followed comments by Alfa Sule during a recent appearance on The Ajibola Akinyefa Podcast, where he alleged that the church founded by their late father had been renamed and transformed into Woli Agba’s personal ministry.
Alfa Sule, an evangelist and founder of Christ Chosen Vessels Dance Drama Ministry in Ibadan, said their father established the church and that he played a significant role in its leadership while the founder was alive.
According to him, he deliberately refrained from presenting the church as his own, despite his involvement in its activities.
“I never called it my church,” Alfa Sule said, explaining that he preferred to remain in the background and only appear at the altar when it was time to preach.
He, however, said he was shocked when he recently discovered that the church had allegedly been taken over and renamed.
“I discovered that they have taken over. They have changed the name of the church. Recently, I realised that it is now his church,” he said.
Alfa Sule maintained that the church should still be regarded as the legacy of their late father.
“Daddy’s church remains Daddy’s church. We were only continuing what he founded there,” he stated.
He further alleged that several references to their father and his original vision had been removed from the church.
“I still hold on to the vision God gave my father. But when I went there, I saw that there is nothing you can trace to my father in that church again,” he said.
Despite his concerns, Alfa Sule said he was not interested in engaging his younger brother in a public fight over the matter.
“I’m not ready to fight over it. I know it is Daddy’s vision, and I also have my own vision,” he said.
Alfa Sule and Woli Agba became known through Christian drama and comedy under the Christ Chosen Vessels Dance Drama Ministry.
The ministry, which began in 2002 with a small group of members, later expanded and gained recognition through Christian-themed drama, comedy and evangelism.
Woli Agba became particularly popular for his portrayal of a prophet character, eventually building a separate career through comedy skits, filmmaking and social media.
The brothers eventually parted ways professionally.
Woli Agba had previously discussed the circumstances surrounding his departure during a 2022 interview with Pastor Funke Felix-Adejumo on Navigate with FFA.
Contrary to any suggestion that he voluntarily abandoned the ministry, Woli Agba said Alfa Sule had asked him to leave.
“I didn’t leave my brother, I love my brother, I couldn’t have left him,” he said.
He recalled that Alfa Sule told him directly to leave the ministry after they had worked together for about 15 years.
“He told me to go,” Woli Agba stated.
According to him, the development was difficult because he had relied on his elder brother for financial support and had not planned to leave the ministry.
“I said, Uncle, where do you want me to go? He has been paying my salary for 15 years,” he recalled.
Woli Agba also said he sought reconciliation after the decision and involved members of the family in an attempt to resolve the matter.
He added that he had even taken his wife to Alfa Sule after their marriage to receive his blessing because he had no intention of separating from his brother.
“I even took my wife to him so he could bless my wife because I did not have any plan of leaving my brother,” he said.
Alfa Sule’s recent account of the brothers’ separation differs from Woli Agba’s earlier version.
According to Alfa Sule, he allowed his younger brother to leave after what he believed was divine direction.
He also claimed that he had contributed significantly to Woli Agba’s upbringing and education, including paying his university fees.
The latest church dispute has now revived public interest in the brothers’ relationship and their separate careers.
While Alfa Sule has continued to focus on Christian ministry and drama, Woli Agba has established himself as a prominent comedian and filmmaker.
As of the time of this report, Woli Agba has not publicly responded to the specific allegations that he renamed their late father’s church, took over its management or removed references to the founder’s legacy.
However, in his 2022 interview, Woli Agba said he still loved his elder brother despite their professional separation.
“I love my brother, and we are doing very well. If he calls me, I will answer,” he said.
