Taiwo ‘Esepo’ Agbaje has been crowned the new WBA Africa lightweight champion after defeating Tosin ‘Sojar Boy’ Osaigbovo via unanimous decision on Sunday in Lagos.
The bout was staged at the National Stadium in Surulere and organised by De Lad’s Boxing, under the approval of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control.
Both unbeaten fighters delivered a fiercely competitive 10-round contest, with Agbaje and Osaigbovo trading blows in a fight that kept the crowd highly engaged throughout.
After a closely contested encounter that went the distance, the judges scored in favour of Agbaje, handing him the continental belt and extending his perfect professional record.
Agbaje, who entered the ring with 18 wins and 13 knockouts, showed grit and composure against Osaigbovo, who also came in undefeated with 12 victories and eight knockouts.
The rivalry had been heated in the buildup, with both fighters exchanging confident remarks ahead of fight night. Agbaje had vowed to “expose” his opponent, dismissing him as “just a boxer,” while Osaigbovo insisted victory was “1000 per cent sure,” adding further intrigue to the contest.
The result marks a major breakthrough for Agbaje, who now holds a continental title in the lightweight division.
