Afrobeats star, Seun Kuti, has urged Nigerians to stop criticizing Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze following his penalty miss in the semi-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations against Morocco.
Nigeria fell short of reaching the final on Wednesday, losing 4-2 in the shootout to hosts Morocco.
Chukwueze, who was brought on late in extra time, did not have any involvement in open play before his missed penalty.
The Fulham winger’s miss triggered a wave of backlash from Nigerian fans on social media, with many questioning coach Eric Chelle’s decision to introduce him at that stage.
Speaking out on Instagram, Seun Kuti called on Nigerians to be fair to Chukwueze, reminding fans that even the best players sometimes falter.
“Even Pele dey miss penalty. Leave Chukwueze alone.”
