Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has announced the relaxation of the curfew earlier imposed on the crisis-ridden communities of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun following improved security reports from the area.
In a statement issued on Saturday, July 19, 2025, by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the state government confirmed that the curfew will now run from 12 midnight to 4 a.m. daily. This adjustment takes immediate effect.
The development follows months of unrest and violent clashes in the three neighboring towns, which initially prompted a 24-hour curfew. The restriction was gradually eased in stages as peace began to return to the area.
“Following positive feedback from our security agencies, Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved a further relaxation of the curfew. The new directive sets the curfew from 12:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. daily,” the statement read.
Adeleke expressed appreciation to the traditional rulers of the affected towns—the Olufon of Ifon, the Olobu of Ilobu, and the Elerin of Erin Osun—as well as other stakeholders for their efforts in restoring peace.
“As the Chief Security Officer of Osun State, I am pleased to note the return of calm to the communities. I commend the royal fathers and all parties involved for their dedication to peacebuilding,” Adeleke was quoted as saying.
He also urged residents and leaders in the communities to continue to uphold peace, warning that any acts of violence going forward would be met with strict consequences.
“Let me be clear: the government will not tolerate any actions that threaten the peace of these communities. Anyone found inciting or engaging in violence will face the full wrath of the law,” the governor warned.
In a related development, Governor Adeleke charged the recently inaugurated 100-member Boundary Resolution Committee to fast-track its work in resolving the lingering boundary disputes between the three communities.
“The committee has a crucial role to play in cementing the peace we have achieved. I urge them to act swiftly and diligently,” he added.
