AAC rejects Anambra gov’ship election results, alleges irregularities

The African Action Congress has rejected the outcome of the recently concluded Anambra State governorship election, alleging widespread irregularities and electoral misconduct.

The party, through its governorship candidate, Chioma Ifemeludike, and Campaign Publicity Secretary, Chimezie Nwokeanochie, called for a thorough and transparent investigation by the Independent National Electoral Commission into the conduct of the poll, which it described as deeply flawed.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Nwokeanochie claimed that credible reports from party agents and independent observers across the state revealed instances of vote buying, electoral breaches, and violations of established voting procedures.

He appealed to INEC and relevant authorities to urgently look into these allegations to safeguard the credibility of Nigeria’s democratic process.

“The African Action Congress wishes to express its profound dissatisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the Anambra State governorship election held on 8 November 2025. Our observations, as well as credible reports received from party agents and independent monitors across the state, indicate that the process was marred by widespread irregularities and violations of established electoral procedures. These include breaches that compromise the secrecy of the ballot and undermine the integrity of the vote,” Nwokeanochie stated.

“The AAC firmly maintains that elections must be transparent, credible, and reflective of the genuine will of the people. The anomalies witnessed during this exercise fall short of these democratic standards and have, regrettably, eroded public confidence in the process.”

INEC had declared the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, winner of the election. Soludo secured 422,664 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, who garnered 99,445 votes, while the Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate, Sir Paul Chukwuma, finished third with 37,753 votes.
