Sevilla and Deportivo Alavés played out a goalless draw in their La Liga encounter at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán on Friday, with goalkeeper Antonio Sivera saving a penalty to deny the hosts a victory.
Sevilla dominated possession and created more scoring opportunities, but Alavés’ defensive resilience and Sivera’s crucial intervention ensured both sides settled for a point.
The decisive moment came in the 32nd minute when Sivera saved Rubén Vargas’ penalty, diving low to his left to keep the visitors in the contest.
Sevilla finished the game with 60 per cent possession and registered 13 shots against Alavés’ nine.
The hosts also recorded a higher expected goals figure of 1.58 compared to the visitors’ 0.54, reflecting their attacking superiority.
Gabriel Suazo was one of Sevilla’s standout performers, earning a rating of 8.1 for his impressive display at left-back.
The defender recorded 94 touches, completed 48 of his 54 passes, delivered eight crosses and made four tackles, three of which were successful.
Félix Correia also impressed for the hosts, matching Suazo’s 8.1 rating.
The midfielder won the penalty with his attacking run and led Sevilla in expected assists with 0.47.
For Alavés, Sivera’s penalty save proved instrumental in securing the away point.
The goalkeeper made two saves and finished with 1.46 goals prevented, while Nicolás Valentini contributed 10 clearances as the visitors withstood sustained pressure.
Despite Sevilla’s territorial dominance and superior attacking statistics, Alavés maintained their defensive organisation to frustrate the hosts until the final whistle.
The result saw both teams share the points, with Sevilla left to rue their missed penalty and inability to convert their numerous chances.
